These reductions represent a significant drop across all categories of UAE diesel and petrol prices. Super 98, for instance, has decreased by 6%, while diesel prices have fallen by nearly 6.5%.

A Look Back at Fluctuating Prices

The year began with a positive trend, with UAE petrol prices experiencing a decrease in January 2024. However, the following months saw a gradual increase, putting pressure on household budgets. This latest reduction comes as a much-needed break for residents.

The cost of fuel is a major concern for many in the UAE, impacting not just personal transportation but also taxi fares. With the rise in UAE petrol prices, Dubai taxi fares had climbed to Dhs2.09 per kilometre. It remains to be seen if the decrease in petrol prices will translate to a reduction in taxi rates.

Aligning with Global Trends

Since 2015, the UAE has adopted a policy of revising UAE diesel and petrol prices on a monthly basis, mirroring fluctuations in global oil prices. This approach ensures transparency and reflects the dynamic nature of the global energy market.

Looking back, UAE petrol prices reached a record high in July 2022, with Super 98 petrol reaching a staggering Dhs4.63 per litre. Thankfully, prices have shown more stability in recent months, with a peak in October 2023 followed by a decline towards the end of the year and into January 2024.
