Dubai summers are notorious for their scorching temperatures and suffocating humidity. As the Dubai summers reaches its peak, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has issued crucial heatwave guidelines to help residents stay safe amidst the brutal blaze.

Dubai summers

MoHAP emphasizes the importance of being prepared for the harsh conditions, both indoors and outdoors. Their key recommendations include:

  • Staying Informed: Monitor weather forecasts for heatwave alerts and keep yourself updated on the latest heat index.
  • Stocking Up: Ensure your first-aid kit is equipped with essentials like electrolyte water, a thermometer, water bottles, cooling cloths, and a battery-operated water sprayer.
  • Having a Plan: Keep a heat stress guidebook handy, along with emergency contact information, in case of emergencies during Dubai summers.

Dubai Summers: Maintaining Indoor Comfort

MoHAP advises residents to take proactive measures to create a cool haven within their homes during Dubai summers. Blocking sunlight with shades or curtains during peak daytime hours and opening windows at night for ventilation are simple yet effective strategies. Utilizing fans and air conditioners is also highly recommended to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures.

Surviving the Outdoors:

Venture outdoors with caution during Dubai summers. Schedule any outdoor activities for the cooler parts of the day, either early mornings or late evenings. Sun protection is critical! Applying sunscreen generously and wearing hats are essential to shield yourself from the harsh sun.

Hydration is Key:

Staying hydrated is paramount during Dubai summers. MoHAP strongly advises regular water intake and encourages the consumption of water-rich foods like cucumbers, watermelon, oranges, strawberries, and tomatoes. These fruits and vegetables can help replenish fluids lost through sweat.

Dressing for the Heat:

Opt for lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing during Dubai summers. This allows for better air circulation and helps regulate body temperature.

Understanding the Heatwave:

This week in Dubai summers, temperatures are predicted to soar between a scorching 41°C and 43°C during the day, with some regions experiencing even higher peaks of 46°C. Nighttime offers little respite, with temperatures hovering around 34°C.

However, the real enemy isn’t just the high temperatures, but the humidity. Dr. Ahmed Habib of the National Centre of Meteorology warns that the second half of summer is typically characterized by a significant rise in humidity, making it feel even hotter than the actual temperature.

“Humidity spikes when the wind blows from the Arabian Gulf (north) instead of the dry south,” explains Dr. Habib. “This is why staying hydrated is crucial during this period, as your body loses a significant amount of water through sweat.”

Beating the Heat in Dubai Summers:

While a refreshing dip in a cool pool might sound like the ultimate escape from the Dubai summer heat, there are other ways to enjoy some outdoor time.

For a luxurious escape, consider a rooftop pool experience at One&Only One Za’abeel. Their Saturday brunch at Tapasake includes access to their record-breaking pool situated in The Link, the world’s longest cantilever sky podium.

For a more budget-friendly option, head to the beach during the early morning hours. While humidity typically peaks around dawn, it decreases as temperatures rise. This creates a perfect window between 7.30 am and 9 am for a refreshing beach escape during Dubai summers.

Alternatively, enjoy a unique dining experience in air-conditioned pods at The Pods on Bluewaters Island. They offer breakfast platters starting at Dhs49, providing a comfortable and cool escape from the scorching Dubai summer heat.
