Travellers flying to Dubai with Emirates now have greater flexibility when changing their plans. The airline has introduced unlimited free date changes for eligible passengers travelling to Dubai, allowing them to move their travel dates without paying a change fee.
The new measure took effect on August 10 and covers a range of Economy and Business Class fares. While passengers will not pay a date-change fee, any difference between the original and new fare may still apply.
The move gives travellers more freedom at a time when international travel plans can change because of personal circumstances, flight disruptions or regional developments. Emirates has also introduced lower refund fees for some Dubai-bound fares.
Which Emirates fares qualify for free date changes?
The unlimited free date-change option is available on several Economy and Business Class fares. Economy passengers travelling on Saver through Flex fares can use the benefit, while Business Class passengers on Special, Saver and Flex fares are also covered.
Passengers travelling on Economy Flex Plus, Premium Economy, Business Flex Plus and First Class already have fully flexible fare conditions. These passengers can continue to make changes according to the flexibility included with their tickets.
Travellers should remember that a free change does not necessarily mean the new ticket will cost exactly the same. If the new travel date has a higher fare, the passenger may need to pay the applicable fare difference.
Emirates cuts refund fees for Dubai flights
Along with free date changes, Emirates has reduced refund fees for passengers travelling to Dubai. Economy passengers with Saver fares now face a $50 refund fee, while the fee for Flex fares has been reduced to $25.
For Business Class passengers, the refund fee is $50 for Special and Saver fares and $25 for Flex fares. The airline has said that no-show fees remain unchanged under the updated arrangements.
The lower refund charges give passengers another option if they decide not to travel rather than simply moving their booking to a later date. The exact conditions will depend on the fare purchased.
One free date change available across the Emirates network
The flexibility measures are not limited to Dubai-bound travellers. Passengers travelling anywhere across the Emirates network can receive one free date change on tickets booked from April 2, 2026.
The benefit also covers journeys that connect through Dubai. This gives passengers more flexibility when Dubai is part of a wider international itinerary rather than the final destination.
Emirates is also allowing passengers to hold a fare for 24 hours at no charge while they finalise their travel plans. This can be useful for travellers who need additional time before confirming a booking.
Emirates offers travel insurance with conflict cover
Emirates has also introduced what it describes as an industry-first Comprehensive Travel Cover policy. One of the key features is conflict cover, which provides reimbursement of medical expenses of up to US$25,000.
The policy also includes a free trip extension of up to 30 days. Other benefits include cover for trip cancellation, baggage delays and loss, unlimited worldwide medical expenses and emergency evacuation.
According to Emirates, the conflict cover is not restricted by government travel advice. The insurance is available in 27 countries and can be purchased while booking through the airline’s website or added later through Manage Booking.
What happens if an Emirates flight is disrupted?
Emirates has also outlined support measures for passengers whose flights are disrupted. Where accommodation is required because of a disruption, the airline said it will provide accommodation directly for affected customers.
If onward connections operated by other airlines are affected, or Emirates services are unavailable, the airline said it will rebook passengers to their final destination at no additional cost.
The measures also apply when cancellations are caused by airspace disruptions. This provides passengers with additional protection when circumstances outside the airline’s normal operations affect their journey.
Extra Emirates Skywards benefits until August 31
Emirates Skywards members can access additional benefits until August 31. The airline is temporarily reducing the number of Tier Miles required to reach Silver, Gold and Platinum status by 20 per cent.
Members can also receive a 20 per cent bonus on Tier Miles earned through Emirates and flydubai flights during the offer period. This can help frequent travellers progress towards higher Skywards membership tiers.
Another temporary benefit is a special Cash+Miles rate. Members can use 2,000 Miles for US$30 instead of the usual US$15 rate when using Miles towards Emirates or flydubai flights, excess baggage, lounge access and seat selection.
