Abu Dhabi has rolled out a new private education strategy built around a simple idea: get students ready for a fast-changing world without losing sight of what makes the UAE who it is. The plan, introduced by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), aims to build an education system that brings together innovation, student well-being, and a strong sense of cultural identity.
The direction mirrors what UAE leadership has been pushing toward for a while now — raising a generation that can lead in technology and innovation while staying genuinely connected to Emirati heritage. The strategy is meant to give students everything they need, not just academically but personally too.
Four Key Priorities for the Future
ADEK has narrowed its focus down to four main priorities that will guide the future of private education across Abu Dhabi: strengthening national identity and values, supporting student health and well-being, building skills for the future, and making high-quality, affordable education more accessible through better-supported teachers.
These four pillars are meant to work together to support the whole student, not just their grades. The strategy looks beyond test scores and classroom performance, aiming instead to raise young people who feel a sense of responsibility toward their communities and their country.

Strengthening National Identity in Schools
A big piece of this strategy is about reinforcing Emirati identity and values in the classroom. ADEK sees schools as one of the most important places where young people build a genuine sense of belonging and pride in their country.
Initiatives like the Frontlines Tribute Initiative have already given students a way to show appreciation for those who serve and protect the nation through art, poetry, performances, and other creative outlets. These kinds of programs help students feel more rooted in their communities and more connected to their national heritage.
Student Wellbeing Becomes a Major Focus
Well-being is getting serious attention in this strategy. ADEK is planning a series of initiatives aimed at supporting students physically, mentally, and emotionally, intending to help them thrive both in school and outside it.
Some of what’s planned includes updated food policies in schools, more chances for physical activity, expanded sports programs, and stronger mental health support for students. Together, these changes are meant to build healthier school environments and, ultimately, better outcomes for students overall.
AI and Future Skills Take Center Stage
Artificial intelligence sits right at the center of this new strategy. ADEK is preparing to roll out a full set of AI-related initiatives, covering curriculum resources, implementation frameworks, training programs, and practical guides for both students and teachers.
This isn’t your typical tech rollout, though. The real focus here is teaching students to use AI responsibly and ethically. That means building critical thinking skills, maintaining human oversight, protecting academic integrity, and staying culturally aware while working with AI tools. It’s a direction that fits neatly into the UAE’s bigger ambition of becoming a global leader in AI and digital transformation.
Literacy hasn’t been forgotten either. The strategy puts real emphasis on reading skills in both Arabic and English, since ADEK views strong literacy as one of the clearest indicators of long-term academic success and social mobility. Schools will get targeted assessments, interventions, and practical resources to help boost reading outcomes across the board.

Empowering Teachers and Enhancing Education Quality
None of this works without teachers, and ADEK clearly knows it. The department recently introduced a reworked approach to teacher talent that focuses on keeping professional standards high, recognizing outstanding educators, and offering ongoing opportunities for professional growth.
ADEK is also widening the pathways into teaching itself, hoping to attract people with real-world experience and a genuine understanding of UAE values. Partnerships with education providers are expected to support Emiratisation efforts and help reinforce national identity right across the classroom.
On top of that, ADEK continues to stay closely connected with school leaders and educators through programs like the Principals Meet-Up, making sure the future of education gets shaped through real collaboration, honest feedback, and continuous improvement rather than decisions made in isolation.
