Travelling along Oud Metha Road in Dubai is set to get a lot faster following the completion of a major road development project. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the project’s completion on September 20, 2026.
According to the RTA, the improvements have cut travel time along the route from 20 minutes down to just five. That is a 75 percent reduction, and it is expected to improve traffic movement through several important road connections in the area.
The project also bumps up the capacity of Oud Metha Road from 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles per hour in both directions. This 50 percent increase is designed to keep pace with growing traffic demand and improve movement between major corridors.
Oud Metha Road Capacity Increases by 50 Per Cent
Oud Metha Road is one of Dubai’s busier routes and provides important connections between several parts of the city. The completed improvements are meant to boost its ability to handle traffic while easing congestion at key intersections.
The RTA said the project has improved traffic flow between Oud Metha Road, Al Asayel Street and surrounding major corridors. These changes should make journeys through the area more efficient, particularly during busier traffic periods.
The jump in capacity from 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles per hour also gives motorists using the route extra road space in both directions.
New Left-Turn Lane Improves Traffic Flow
As part of the development, the RTA added a lane for two left turns for traffic heading toward Al Garhoud Bridge. This bumps up the capacity of that movement to 1,800 vehicles per hour.
The service road running along Sheikh Rashid Road, between the bridge and the Al Zahrawi Street exit, has also been upgraded. The improvement is meant to address traffic overlap and create safer movement for vehicles using the connecting roads.
The RTA has also expanded the number of right-turn lanes connecting Sheikh Rashid Road with Oud Metha Road and Dubai-Al Ain Road, going from two lanes to three, which adds extra capacity at those connections.
New Bridges Connect Al Asayel Street With Al Khail Road
Another major part of the project is the construction of new bridges at the intersection of Oud Metha Road, Al Asayel Street and Al Wasl Club Street. Two of these bridges connect Al Asayel Street with Al Khail Road.
The first bridge has two lanes and a capacity of around 2,400 vehicles per hour. The second has three lanes and can handle approximately 3,600 vehicles per hour.
A further two-lane bridge has also been built, with a capacity of around 2,400 vehicles per hour. Together, these improvements aim to create smoother traffic movements between the connected roads.
Access to Al Wasl Club Has Also Been Improved
The project also includes improvements around Al Wasl Club, with changes to its entry and exit points. These upgrades are meant to reduce traffic conflicts between vehicles heading into the facility and traffic moving along the main road.
Improved access should make movement in and around the area more organised, and it fits into the wider effort to ease congestion at important intersections along the Oud Metha and Al Asayel corridors.
These changes matter especially for people travelling through areas connected to Oud Metha Road, including Za’abeel, Oud Metha, Al Jaddaf and Umm Hurair.

Better Access to Latifa Hospital and Other Key Facilities
The Oud Metha Road development is also expected to improve access to important facilities in the surrounding areas. Among them is Latifa Hospital, which sits within the wider network affected by the road improvements.
Better road connections can help cut delays for people travelling to hospitals, residential communities, workplaces and other destinations in the area. The project also improves access to Al Wasl Club through its upgraded entry and exit points.
By boosting road capacity and improving connections between major streets, the RTA aims to support the area’s growing traffic needs while making journeys more efficient.
