The IPL 2025 has not started yet, but replacements are being seen. Even one replacement has turned into a legal suit, as a player has left the Pakistan Super League and joined the IPL. Corbin Bosch was going to play in the PSL, but Mumbai Indians pacer Lizad Williams got injured. In such a situation, MI signed a contract with Corbin and he left the PSL. Due to this, PCB has taken action against him. However, what are the rules regarding replacement in IPL? Let’s understand this.

The rules of replacement in IPL are such that BCCI allows replacement of a player not only before the season but also in the middle of the season if he is injured or ill. However, BCCI has made a slight amendment in the rules this season, under which replacement is allowed till the 12th league match of the team’s season. Earlier, it was allowed only till the seventh match.
In IPL, only that player can be included as a replacement who has registered his name for the current season. If a player has registered himself at a base price of INR 1 crore and he is not sold in the auction or his name does not come in the auction pool and a team adds him along when a player is injured, then the franchise will have to spend at least INR 1 crore for him, which will be his base price. The money will not be less, but it can be more.
There are many examples when the franchise has kept bowlers included in the RAPP list as net bowlers, but if another franchise wants to add him as a replacement, then those franchises have no right to stop him. A replacement player can be recruited at a fee which should not be more than the league fee payable to the player whom he will replace.

Apart from this, the rule is also that if a player gets injured during the IPL and the BCCI medical team finds that he will not be fit till the end of the season, then he can be replaced. In this case, even if that player becomes fit, then he will not return again in the season. If a player comes in the middle of the season, then that player will get money according to the league fee.
