The Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai announced on Monday that an innovative Rail Bus transportation system will enter service as a fully recyclable 3D-printed vehicle. The autonomous solar-powered system remains under development as it shows promise to transform how cities transport people within the emirates.

A model of the Rail Bus appears at the World Government Summit 2025 exhibition within Madinat Jumeirah. Two rows of orange seats and disability accommodations define the design of this vehicle which displays gold and black colors on its exterior. A single carriage includes 22 seating positions which enables transportation of 40 travelers.
Real-time information about the present journey and upcoming stop locations as well as weather conditions and time displays will appear on overhead screens. Passenger safety information stands opposite each other on the bus while control panels exist at both ends of each carriage.
The bus will achieve connected efficient seamless mobility through frequent and flexible routing to integrate with other public transport systems especially for first- and last mile travel.

The low-cost system requires elevated tracks as its base that will be constructed throughout the emirate. The bus designed for 100kmph speed will have 2.9 meter height and 11.5 meter length while solar-powered self-driving technology will provide the complete energy supply.
The project helps Dubai achieve its mission of becoming the smartest city in the world while supporting UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy as well as Dubai’s Zero-Emissions Public Transport Strategy 2050 and Dubai Self-Driving Transport Strategy 2030 with its goal to have 25 percent of daily trips done by autonomous vehicles.
The Rail Bus achieves maximum efficiency while reducing environmental impact because of its scaled and lightweight 3D-printed structure. The system’s official launch date remains unknown yet it will reshape public transportation while establishing Dubai as a top smart sustainable transport hub worldwide.
