Dubai, UAE: In a major development for the cricketing world, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the revised schedule for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. The tournament, originally slated to be held in Bangladesh, will now take place in Dubai and Sharjah due to the host nation’s withdrawal.

The eagerly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan will be one of the highlights of the tournament. The two cricketing rivals will face off on Sunday, October 6, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. This high-stakes encounter is sure to draw massive attention from fans around the globe.

T20 Women’s World Cup 2024: Key Fixtures and Venues

The tournament will kick off on Thursday, October 3, with a match between Bangladesh and Scotland at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Other notable fixtures in Dubai include India’s matches against New Zealand and Sri Lanka, as well as the Australia-Pakistan clash.

The Dubai International Cricket Stadium, with its capacity of 25,000, will host several key matches, including the first semi-final and the final on October 20. Sharjah Cricket Stadium will also play a significant role in the tournament, hosting a number of matches, including the second semi-final.

Participating Teams

Ten teams will compete in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Defending champions Australia will look to retain their title against a strong field that includes England, India, South Africa, New Zealand, and West Indies. Bangladesh, as the original hosts, has retained its qualification rights. Pakistan, Scotland, and Sri Lanka have also secured their spots in the tournament.

ICC’s Statement

ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice expressed his disappointment that the tournament could not be held in Bangladesh but thanked the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in to host the event. He stated, “It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event.”

Allardice also praised the UAE for agreeing to host the tournament at short notice and expressed his anticipation for future ICC events in the country.
