With a recent announcement on the Launch of Dubai National University by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, the emirate is again heading towards a new era of more significant changes in education domain. The new university that is on the process of establishment will require an initial investment of Dh4. The new 5 billion university will provide specialized academic programs for students with the focus on the perspective fields and the technologies of the future.
Currently, the major developmental vision of the DNU is to become one of the top 50 youthful universities all over the world in the coming decade and become an institution of excellence in research and teaching innovativeness. In a social media post, Sheikh Mohammed shared his vision for the project: “Today, we commence a new venture to promote education in our country. Its vision is to be among top 50 young university of the decade ahead.
Sheikh Mohammed further outlined the long-term aspirations for Dubai National University, stating: “Within twenty years’ time it should be among the 200 best universities in the world,” The university within the region should be among the top 3 contributors in research within the coming 10 years.
These objectives will be reflected in the University elaborated as an Emirati identity that will provide international programs for the UAE’s development plan. This progressive approach is in line with an effort of preparing the graduates in order to perform and to compete in the global market. “The world is changing fast and the task should be to produce generations that will be future proofed and capable of using change to build a future for out nation,” said Sheikh Mohammed.
In a major leadership announcement, Sheikh Mohammed appointed key figures to spearhead the university’s growth. Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, has been named the President of Dubai National University, while Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, has been appointed as Vice President. Additionally, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum will serve as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. The university will also benefit from the guidance of a global advisory council composed of experts from various disciplines to ensure the institution remains at the forefront of global academic standards.
Dubai National University is part of the broader Dubai Social Agenda 33, a ten-year strategic plan designed to enhance the lives of Emirati families. The agenda, themed “Family: The Foundation of Our Nation,” focuses on areas such as housing, social cohesion, healthcare, and future skills development.
