Japan Visa: Dubai residents eager to explore the enchanting landscapes and rich culture of Japan are in for some exciting news. The process of obtaining a Japan visa is undergoing significant changes, promising a smoother and more convenient experience for travelers.
Japan Visa Application Process
Effective August 1, 2024, the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai will no longer be handling visa applications for Dubai residents. Instead, the reins have been handed over to visa application service VFS Global. This shift aims to streamline the application process and reduce processing times.
While short-term and long-term paper visas will be processed immediately, the e-visa service is set to resume in September. This means that expats will no longer have to grapple with the challenges of securing an appointment at the consulate, a process that often proved to be a daunting task.
Quicker Visa Processing
One of the key benefits of this change is the anticipated reduction in visa processing time. VFS Global typically processes visas within eight working days, offering a faster turnaround compared to the previous system. This expedited process is expected to make planning a trip to Japan significantly easier for Dubai residents.
E-Visa Resumption
The popular e-visa process, which was temporarily suspended in April 2024, is making a comeback. While the e-visa application will still require an appointment, it is anticipated that securing one through VFS Global will be less challenging than it was previously.
Japan Visa Fees
The cost of a Japan visa varies depending on nationality. Several nationalities, including those from the UK, USA, and Russia, are exempt from visa fees. However, Indian nationals will need to pay a fee of Dhs20 for a single or multiple-entry visa. Other nationalities not listed on the Consulate-General of Japan’s website will incur a fee of Dhs80 for a single visit and Dhs160 for multiple visits. Additionally, a processing fee of Dhs100 applies to all applicants when using VFS Global.
Japan: A Popular Destination
Japan continues to be a top choice for travelers from the UAE. Cities like Osaka and Tokyo have witnessed a surge in popularity, with search results increasing by over 300% in 2023 compared to the previous year.
With convenient flight options offered by Emirates and Etihad, reaching Japan from Dubai has never been easier. Whether you’re drawn to the vibrant city life of Tokyo, the historical charm of Kyoto, or the natural beauty of Hokkaido, Japan has something to offer every traveler.
These recent changes to the Japan visa process are undoubtedly positive news for Dubai residents planning a trip to the Land of the Rising Sun. As the e-visa service resumes and visa processing times improve, it is expected that even more people will be able to experience the magic of Japan.
