Dubai Metro and Tram will run for more than 43 hours non-stop starting December 31st, according to a statement from the Senior Director in the RTA. The step, which is expected to ensure that pedestrians do not congest central business areas during New Year celebrations, has been welcomed as authorities encourage people to travel in public transport during celebrations.
Specifically for Dubai Metro, it will be opened from 5 in the morning of the New Year eve up to the end of New Year day. On the other hand, Dubai Tram will be available starting December 31st at 6 in the morning of beginning of operation up to January 2nd at 1 in the morning. The RTA is also considering the procurement of a new fleet of 1400 buses that will be ferried freely to the public.
The RTA Traffic Executive Director, Hussain Al Bana, confirmed that through Metro and Tram line expansion, new parking areas, and free bus services to the public are elements that reduce traffic intensity.
Dubai Mall Metro Station will be closed from 5pm of if the mall reaches to its crowding limit. For the users of Public transport they were urged to use the nearest metro station for accessing the celebrations.
He said that we are encouraging people to use the Dubai Metro to avoid the traffic. There will be normal and full functionality of all the metro stations, some of them will have elaborate planning to avert overcrowding. Sometimes, we close some stations like Burj Khalifa to avoid congestion of passengers in the station. But we will depend on the business bay station,” Al Bana added.

Currently, our organisational record shows that we have a total of 1,400 buses, all of which are active and deployed throughout the emirate. If there is much pressure in some quarters, then more buses will be put in operation to meet the high numbers of people visiting or living in the area. We will follow up these areas during different occasions in the emirate.
The authorities have also observed that signing systems have been implemented to assist commuters during the festivities according to Al Bana. Signs pointing to parking lots and bus pickup areas have been well installed on all roads to help visitors in way finding.
Besides, ITS signage and VMS signs and boards will be installed to give travelers information on road blockage, detours, and cleared routes. As for the parking area Al Bana also called on the public to look for these signs so as to access the event area easily.
Islamic lessons in schools will be delivered to students before the prayer, Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Head of the Emergency and Crisis Team, Dubai Municipality, said, Public parks in Dubai will function until 1am for those who intend to go there and spend the whole day.
Dubai will have the fireworks and drone show to usher in the New Year 2025, covering 36 different areas of the emirate in the first two minutes. The prominent celebrations also take place in Burj Park, Global Village, Dubai Festival City Mall, Al Seef, Bluewaters, The Beach at JBR, and Hatta.
