The second edition of the Dubai Mallathon has wrapped up with a record 160,475 participants taking part in this three-month sporting programme. Running from June 15 to September 15, the event turned shopping malls and other major destinations across Dubai into full-fledged active sporting spaces.
Together, participants racked up more than 290 million steps during the event. The initiative brought together professional athletes, regular runners, complete beginners, and families, making fitness genuinely accessible to a wide cross-section of the community.
The event was held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, organised by the Dubai Sports Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence.
Dubai Mallathon Expanded to More Venues
The 2026 edition spanned more than nine malls and destinations across the emirate, with three new venues joining the lineup this year, including Dubai International Airport, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), and Ibn Battuta Mall.
These joined existing Mallathon locations like Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Hills Mall, City Centre Mirdif, Dubai Festival City Mall, and City Centre Deira. This wider network helped bring the programme closer to residents and visitors across different parts of Dubai.
By using shopping malls and other indoor destinations, the initiative offered a genuinely different setting for physical activity during those hot summer months, helping turn familiar retail spaces into venues for organised races and community fitness activities.

More Than 14 Weekly Races Held Across Dubai
The Dubai Mallathon 2026 programme featured more than 14 weekly races over the three-month stretch, with a schedule designed to accommodate participants across every level of running experience, from complete beginners to seasoned athletes.
The programme also included special activities tied to Emirati Women’s Day, celebrated on August 28. A dedicated Women’s Mallathon event brought participants together as part of the wider summer fitness programme.
One of the major highlights was a full marathon inside Dubai Mall, along with a 21-kilometre half-marathon, adding longer-distance challenges into the weekly race programme.
Dubai Mallathon Promotes Everyday Fitness
Khalfan Belhoul, vice chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, said the initiative reflected the leadership’s focus on making sport a genuine part of everyday life. He noted the programme drew in professional athletes, amateur runners, beginners, and families alike.
These participation figures also show just how broad the event’s community reach really was. With more than 160,000 people joining in and hundreds of millions of steps recorded, the Mallathon opened the door for people across every fitness level to take part in organised physical activity.
Belhoul said the enthusiasm participants showed demonstrated how sport can bring communities together and encourage more people to get active.
Dubai Mallathon Turns Shopping Malls Into Sports Venues
Saeed Hareb, secretary general of the Dubai Sports Council, described the Mallathon as a global model for turning strategic plans into practical results. He said the initiative successfully transformed retail destinations into genuine sporting spaces during the summer.
Using malls also gave community members a safe, easily accessible environment to take part in physical activity. Rather than limiting the programme to traditional outdoor sporting venues, the Mallathon brought races directly into popular destinations people already visit.
This approach let participants combine their regular trips to major malls with organised fitness activities, helping build a more visible sporting culture across the emirate.

Mallathon Supports Dubai’s Quality of Life Goals
The Dubai Mallathon was launched in line with the Dubai Social Agenda 33 and the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, also supporting the goals of the UAE’s Year of the Family.
These wider initiatives focus on building a connected community and supporting quality of life, and the Mallathon’s mix of sport, family participation, and community events reflects exactly that role physical activity plays within those broader objectives.
The 2026 edition was officially backed by sponsors including Al Ameen Service, Mai Dubai, Huawei, and Yango Group, alongside the Dubai Sports Council and Ministry of Defence.
Dubai Mallathon Builds on Last Year’s Guinness World Record
This latest edition builds on the Mallathon’s record-setting first year. The 2025 event achieved a Guinness World Record for the largest number of participants in a running race inside a shopping mall.
The 2026 programme expanded on that foundation by adding new locations, more weekly races, and different formats, including the full marathon and half-marathon.
With 160,475 participants taking part across the 2026 programme, this second edition kept building the Mallathon’s reputation as a large-scale community fitness event in Dubai.
