Dubai Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, recently shared a dramatic video of a lightning bolt striking the top of the Burj Khalifa during a heavy rainstorm. The short, mesmerizing, and amazing footage captures the dark, cloudy sky and the distinct sound of rain and thunder, making the visual impact even more significant.
Sheikh Hamdan, known for his interest in photography and nature, captioned the post simply “Dubai” and included emojis of a rain cloud and a high-voltage symbol. Notably, Sheikh Hamdan is also the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister. He is commonly known as Fazaa, a pseudonym used for his poetry, meaning “helper” in Arabic. After serving as Deputy Ruler from 2006 to 2008, he was appointed Crown Prince of Dubai in 2008.

According to Gulf News, the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) stated that the UAE entered the peak phase of the ‘Al Bashair’ low-pressure system on December 18. “The inclement weather conditions in the UAE are due to the development of a surface low-pressure system from the Red Sea. This will create clouds of varying heights, leading to rainfall of varying intensity, with lightning, thunder, and hailstorms expected in some areas,” the NCM said in an alert on Thursday.
The video was widely shared on social media platforms, with viewers expressing their amazement at this spectacular and rare natural phenomenon captured in front of the famous tall building. The incident occurred during a period of inclement weather in the UAE, with the National Center of Meteorology issuing warnings for rain, thunder, lightning, and hailstorms in various areas.
