Drivers in Dubai have been issued a warning about upcoming closures and traffic disruptions on the major Dubai-Al Ain Road. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced essential maintenance work that will require full road closures during weekends and lane restrictions during weekdays.

Weekend Closures

Weekend Closures

To facilitate the bridge maintenance work at the fifth intersection with Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road, the Dubai-Al Ain Road will be completely closed in both directions every weekend for two weeks, starting from Friday, August 9, 2024. The closure will be in effect from 1am to 10am.

Drivers traveling from Al Ain to Dubai during these times will need to take the free right exit onto Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road towards Hatta and then make a U-turn at the first roundabout to head towards Dubai. Those traveling from Dubai to Al Ain should take the free right exit onto Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road towards Jebel Ali Port and make a U-turn at the first roundabout to reach Al Ain.

Weekday Delays

While the road will be fully open on weekdays, motorists can expect traffic delays and diversions between 10pm and 6am daily from August 9 to September 9, 2024. The RTA advises drivers to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel during these hours.

A Month of Disruption

The maintenance work is expected to cause traffic congestion for an entire month. The RTA has emphasized its commitment to improving road infrastructure and reducing travel times in Dubai. However, the necessary closures and lane restrictions will undoubtedly impact traffic flow.

Wider Road Improvement Plans

This latest announcement comes after the RTA announced similar maintenance work on Emirates Road in July. The authority is actively working on several road improvement projects to enhance the city’s transportation network and alleviate traffic congestion.

As Dubai continues to grow and develop, road infrastructure must adapt to accommodate the increasing traffic volume. While these maintenance works may cause temporary inconvenience, they are essential for ensuring the long-term efficiency and safety of the city’s road network.

The RTA has urged motorists to follow traffic signs, adhere to speed limits, and exercise caution during the maintenance period. By planning journeys in advance and staying informed about traffic updates, drivers can minimize disruptions and reach their destinations safely.
