Dubai Capitals have confirmed Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka as their captain for the fourth edition of the International League T20. The defending champions finalized the decision ahead of the new campaign, citing Shanaka’s experience and leadership qualities at the international level.

Shanaka, who was part of the Capitals’ title-winning team last season, brings a strong T20 record to the job, having played in over 100 matches across both disciplines. Team officials stated that they aim to further strengthen the stability of their retained core and establish a new direction under a new captain.
Notably, in the last edition of this major competition, the 34-year-old scored 164 runs in 12 matches at an impressive strike rate of 202.46. His finishing will once again be crucial for Dubai as they begin their campaign against the Desert Vipers on December 2. Meanwhile, reacting to the appointment, Shanaka said the team is in high spirits and aims to play fearless cricket.

Shanaka said, “It’s a huge honor to lead the Dubai Capitals. This franchise has shown immense faith in me, and I’m excited to take on this responsibility. We have a balanced, passionate team, and I’m confident we can play fearless cricket this season and make our fans proud.”
Head coach Hemang Badani also reiterated the franchise’s confidence in the new captain. Calling him the players’ captain, he hopes the players maintain the same mindset that helped the team win the title last season. Badani said, “Dasun brings calmness, intent, and a good understanding of the game. He leads by example, and the boys rally behind him. With the team we’ve built and the mindset we carry forward, we’re looking forward to a strong ILT20 campaign.”

Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka is a prolific T20 all-rounder and former Sri Lanka captain. Shanaka has scored 1,659 runs and taken 41 wickets in 117 T20 matches. He was part of the Capitals’ core group that won the Season 3 title, and now takes on the captaincy role as the defending champions look to retain their crown in the 2025-26 campaign.
