This is How the 300 Mark was Achieved
The date of 12 September 2025 has been recorded in the history and record books forever at Manchester’s famous Emirates Old Trafford Stadium. England’s batsmen showed their most explosive style on this ground and broke many previous big records. Batting first in the second match of the T20 series against South Africa, England scored 304 runs in their innings of 20 overs. For that, the foundation of this record was laid by Jos Buttler (86), on which Phil Salt built the building of a historic achievement.

One of the most dangerous opening pairs in world cricket, Salt and Butler, made a stormy partnership of 126 runs in just 7.5 overs and gave the team such a start, after which there was only one question on everyone’s lips—will the wall of 300 runs be broken? Salt, who made the record of the fastest T20 century for England in just 39 balls, played an amazing innings and brought the team close to this score. Then, in the 20th over, England captain Harry Brook broke the 300-run mark by taking 1 run off Kagiso Rabada’s ball.
This Feat Happened for the First Time
With this, a score of 300 runs was made for only the third time in a T20 International. Nepal first did this feat on 27 September 2023, when it scored 314 runs against Mongolia. Then, on 23 October 2024, Zimbabwe touched this figure and set a new record by scoring 344 runs against Gambia. But what England did is a first in itself.

Actually, this is the first time that 300 runs have been scored in an inning in a match between ICC’s full member teams (having Test cricket status). Earlier, the highest score in a match between ICC members was in the name of Team India, which scored 297 runs against Bangladesh in 2024. England holds the record for the highest score in ODI cricket, which it set by scoring 498 runs against the Netherlands.

Not only this, but England also hit 30 fours and 18 sixes in this innings, i.e., a total of 48 boundaries. This is a new record for the highest number of boundaries in a T20 match between full member teams, while it is the second highest in a T20 International. The record is in the name of Zimbabwe, which hit 57 boundaries in a match of 344 runs.
England Could Not Leave Team India Behind

The England team won the match by a big margin of 146 runs. However, they failed to break Team India’s record. The Indian team has a record of winning a match by 168 runs against a full ICC member in a T20 International. They defeated New Zealand by 168 runs at the Ahmedabad ground in 2023. England had scored 304 runs, and South Africa’s wickets were falling continuously, so it seemed that perhaps they would put Team India behind, but they failed in this matter.
