From Desert Dream to Reality

The journey of the BAPS Hindu Mandir is rooted in a visionary dream of His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the late spiritual leader of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. In 1997, while in the Sharjah desert, he envisioned a temple in Abu Dhabi. Today, that dream has materialized, thanks to the visionary leaders of the UAE and India, along with the dedication of the BAPS organization.

Artistry and Sustainability

Upon entering the temple premises, one is captivated by an impressive dune structure crafted from sand contributed by all seven emirates. This symbolic representation pays homage to the visionary leadership and dream of Pramukh Swami Maharaj. The commitment to sustainability is evident throughout the temple, from eco-friendly shoe houses to benches and tables crafted by reusing wooden pallets.

Unveiling Cultural Narratives

The main temple is a visual spectacle, narrating key moments from Indian epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, along with stories from Hindu scriptures and mythology. The temple’s design, adhering to the ancient Hindu ‘shilpa shastras,’ incorporates depictions from Arabian, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Aztec, and Indian civilizations. It stands as a testament to the interconnectedness of cultures across time and space.

Architectural Marvels: ‘Dome of Harmony’ and ‘Dome of Peace’

Inside the temple, visitors are treated to two spectacular carvings – the ‘Dome of Harmony’ and the ‘Dome of Peace.’ The ‘Dome of Harmony’ symbolizes the essence of earth, water, fire, air, and space across five layers, showcasing a remarkable masterpiece in the ‘pillar of pillars’ adorned with thousands of meticulously engraved smaller pillars.
