Former World Number 1 women’s doubles player and six-time Grand Slam champion Sania Mirza and former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh have been appointed as Dubai Sports Ambassadors. The statement was made during the “Dubai Sports Retreat”.
This was announced at the “Dubai Sports Retreat” organized on Monday at the Futuristic Museum of the Future organized by the Dubai Sports Council. The event organized under the theme reflects Dubai’s growing ambitions to establish itself as a global leader in sports excellence.
The event, held under the theme “Dubai: The First Sports Destination,” of course, mirrors Dubai’s emerging push for itself with its aspiration of being one of the world’s leaders in sports. Organised under the guidelines of Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council the primary objective of the retreat was to establish Dubai as a sports city and encourage physically active lifestyle across the community of Dubai.

Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum explained the concept behind the initiative. During the retreat I was able to attend a meeting with the Dubai sports ambassadors, which are distinguished Arab and international figures presently residing in Dubai. Their passion for sports development and supporting talents remains something I admire,’ Sheikh Hamdan said on X (formerly known as Twitter).
He said: ‘It was inspiring to hear these specific ideas and gain insights to build a better future not only for sports but to make clubs better and foster local talent’. Our mission is to explore & ensure that sports are part of life, recreation, and a chief engine for the city’s development, Happiness.
The newly appointed ambassador, Sania Mirza said, “It’s a great honor to be a member of the Dubai Sports Ambassadors. Dubai has been my home for years now, and it gives me great pleasure to assist in uniting people through sport and the promotion of the city’s diverse sporting legacy.”
