Dubai Public Transport: In a significant step towards a sustainable future, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is undergoing a major overhaul of its public bus fleet. The authority has invested a substantial Dhs1.1 billion to introduce 636 new buses, including 40 electric vehicles, to enhance public transportation services across Dubai.

Public Transport

This ambitious initiative is part of the RTA’s broader plan to reduce carbon emissions and establish Dubai as a global leader in sustainable transportation. By replacing older buses with modern, environmentally friendly models, the RTA aims to improve air quality and create a healthier living environment for residents.

Electric Buses Lead the Way:

The introduction of electric buses marks a pivotal moment in Dubai’s journey towards a greener future. Four initial areas, namely Business Bay, Al Ghubaiba, Al Satwa, and Al Jafiliya, have been selected for the deployment of these zero-emission vehicles. The RTA is also committed to building the necessary charging infrastructure to support the electric bus fleet.

Public Transport: Enhanced Passenger Experience

Beyond environmental benefits, the new buses offer a host of features designed to enhance the passenger experience. Equipped with low floors for easy accessibility, bike racks, dedicated seating for children, and Wi-Fi connectivity, these buses prioritize comfort and convenience. Additionally, the implementation of Driver Behavior Monitoring Systems and Automated Passenger Counting systems will improve safety and efficiency.

A Commitment to Sustainability:

The RTA’s decision to invest in a new bus fleet aligns with the UAE’s broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. By focusing on environmentally friendly technologies and improving public transport services, the authority is driving positive change and contributing to a more sustainable future for Dubai.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, emphasized the importance of this initiative in elevating Dubai’s public transport system to global standards. By offering best-in-class services and expanding the network, the RTA aims to encourage more people to choose public transport as their preferred mode of travel.

As Dubai continues to grow and develop, the demand for efficient and sustainable transportation solutions will only increase. The RTA’s commitment to upgrading its bus fleet is a testament to the city’s dedication to creating a greener, more livable environment for its residents and visitors.
