Nol Card: Dubai residents and visitors relying on the Metro for their daily commute are facing a new hurdle. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a significant increase in the minimum top-up amount for nol cards at Metro station ticket offices.

Effective immediately, commuters must now add at least Dhs50 to their nol cards when topping up in person. This marks a substantial jump from the previous minimum of Dhs20, which was implemented just months ago in January 2024.

Nol Card: Why the Change?

While the RTA has not officially stated the reasons behind this latest increase, it’s likely a measure aimed at streamlining operations and reducing transaction times at ticket offices. By increasing the minimum top-up amount, the RTA hopes to expedite the process for commuters and reduce queues.

Digital Top-Up Remains Unchanged

It’s important to note that this new minimum top-up rule only applies to in-person transactions at Metro stations. Commuters who prefer the convenience of online top-ups are unaffected by this change.

Maximizing Your Nol Card

To avoid the new minimum top-up, consider taking advantage of the nolPay app. This user-friendly application allows you to check your card balance, transaction history, and conveniently top up your card with any desired amount.

Beyond transportation, the nol card has become a versatile payment method in Dubai. You can use it for RTA taxis, Etihad Museum parking, and even shopping at over 2,000 retail outlets. Additionally, some restaurants now accept nol card payments.

To ensure a smooth commuting experience, it’s advisable to maintain a minimum balance of Dhs15 on your nol card to cover a round trip on the Metro. Remember, gold nol cards provide access to first-class carriages, while silver cards offer standard access with dedicated sections for women and children.

Tips for Nol Card Users:

  • Download the nolPay app for easy top-ups and balance checks.
  • Keep a minimum of Dhs15 on your card for Metro travel.
  • Explore the various benefits of using your nol card for payments beyond transportation.

While the increased minimum top-up might inconvenience some commuters, the convenience and versatility of the nol card make it an essential tool for navigating Dubai’s public transportation system and beyond.
