India defeated Australia by five wickets in the semi-finals of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 to advance to the final. The final will be played between India and South Africa on November 2nd at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. This is the first time that neither England nor Australia will be in the Women’s ODI World Cup final.

The second semi-final of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 was played between India and Australia on Thursday at the DY Patil Cricket Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Australia scored 215 runs. Chasing a target of 216, the Indian team was all out for 117 runs in 46 overs, losing by 98 runs.

The 2017 World Cup was played in England. India faced England in the final. England, batting first, scored 228 runs. Chasing the target of 229, the Indian team was all out for 219 runs in 48.4 overs, narrowly missing out on the World Cup title by 9 runs.
Both Sides Await Their First Title
The Indian women’s team has played two finals before this, while South Africa has reached the ODI World Cup final for the first time. Therefore, the Indian team has more experience playing under pressure. This could benefit the Indian team in the final.
However, South Africa reached the final with a big win over England in the semi-finals. Therefore, the Indian team will not take South Africa lightly. Jemimah and Harmanpreet Kaur shared a 167-run partnership for the third wicket. This 156-ball partnership turned the match in India’s favor. Harmanpreet missed out on a century, scoring 89 runs off 88 balls. Deepti Sharma contributed 24 runs off 17 balls, while Richa Ghosh contributed 26 runs off 16 balls. Finally, Amanjot Kaur played an unbeaten inning of 15 runs off 8 balls.
Jemimah Rodrigues scored an unbeaten century for India. India has secured a place in the final of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, where they will face South Africa. India not only completed the highest successful run chase in a World Cup knockout match but also ended Australia’s streak of 15 consecutive victories in the Women’s ODI World Cup. Chasing Australia’s target of 339 runs, India didn’t have a good start. India lost Shafali at 13 and then Mandhana at 59. Jemimah and Captain Harmanpreet Kaur then laid the foundation for India’s victory by adding 167 runs for the third wicket. Captain Harmanpreet was dismissed for 89. Jemimah then partnered with Deepti and Richa to take the match to the final. This way, the Indian women’s team knocked out the undefeated Australian women’s team from the Women’s World Cup 2025.
Earlier, Australia scored 338 runs, thanks to a century from Phoebe Litchfield. Litchfield scored 119 runs off 93 balls. She and Ellyse Perry shared a 155-run partnership for the second wicket. Ellyse Perry was dismissed for 77. The Indian bowlers then staged a strong comeback. However, Ashleigh Gardner held one end and scored 67 runs, securing Australia’s score. India crossed 300. Deepti and Sricharani took two wickets each, while Amanjot, Kranti, and Radha Yadav each took one wicket.
