Calling all cycling enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers! The scenic mountain escape of Hatta, nestled within the Dubai Emirate, has undergone a significant transformation courtesy of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
Hatta, a haven for those seeking respite from the bustling city life of Dubai, has received a much-anticipated makeover focused on enhancing the experience for cyclists and pedestrians.
Expanded Hatta Cycling Tracks: Explore Further on Two Wheels
The existing network of cycling tracks within the mountain village has been significantly extended, offering cyclists more ground to cover and explore. Previously at 9km, the total length of the cycling tracks has now ballooned to an impressive 13.5km, thanks to a welcome addition of a brand new 4.5km stretch. This expansion caters to both seasoned cyclists seeking a challenge and casual riders looking for a leisurely ride through the stunning scenery.
A Haven for Pedestrians: New Walking Track and Improved Accessibility
The RTA hasn’t forgotten about pedestrians either. Hikers and walkers can now enjoy a dedicated 2.2km walking track, a thoughtful addition that complements the expanded cycling network. This new track is 50% longer than what was previously available, providing ample space for walkers to explore the natural beauty of Hatta at their own pace.
Enhanced Amenities: Rest, Relax, and Refuel
To ensure a comfortable and convenient experience for visitors, the RTA has constructed two new rest areas along the extended cycling and walking tracks. These rest areas provide much-needed pitstops where cyclists and pedestrians can catch their breath, rehydrate, and enjoy the picturesque surroundings before continuing their exploration.
Wadi Lim Lake Gets a Facelift
The popular Wadi Lim Lake hasn’t been left out of the Hatta makeover. The car park at the lake has been completely paved, significantly improving accessibility and offering more parking spaces. The newly paved car park now boasts a capacity of 135 vehicles, ensuring there’s ample space for visitors to park and enjoy the lake’s beauty.
Additionally, the RTA has implemented a new traffic signage system around the lake to provide clear guidance and ensure the smooth and safe flow of traffic for both arriving and departing visitors.
Connecting the Dots: A Seamless Cycling Network
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the RTA, shed light on the project’s vision. He explained how the new cycling tracks have been meticulously designed to connect various key points within Hatta.
“The new cycling tracks begin behind the Hatta Community Centre, then pass through the existing pedestrian bridge at Lake Lim, eventually connecting to the existing track at the Wadi Park area,” elaborated Al Banna. “Furthermore, the cycling track has been linked to the Hatta Lodge area and the Hatta Sports Club area, with additional branches connecting to existing streets in the Al Masyaf area near Al Salmi.”
This interconnected network of cycling tracks aims to encourage residents and visitors to embrace sustainable modes of transportation like cycling while promoting healthy exercise habits. It aligns perfectly with Dubai’s strategic vision of becoming a leading bicycle-friendly city.
Hatta: More Than Just Cycling Tracks
While the new cycling and walking tracks are undoubtedly exciting additions, Hatta offers much more for visitors seeking an escape into nature. This captivating mountain retreat is already a popular day trip destination for Dubai residents, and with good reason.
Hatta boasts a plethora of natural attractions, including picturesque camping sites, refreshing rock pools, challenging hiking trails, and exhilarating water sport activities. Whether you’re a cycling enthusiast, a passionate hiker, or simply seeking a break amidst breathtaking scenery, Hatta’s recent makeover further enhances its appeal as a must-visit destination for anyone seeking adventure and rejuvenation in the heart of Dubai.
