A Milestone for Women’s Football
The FIFA Unites: Women’s Series exposes the continued interest of FIFA to make sure that every woman and girl is entitled to play football, pursue their sporting ambitions, and succeed using the game. FIFA President Gianni Infantino stressed the broader meaning of the competition and said:
It is FIFA, in its mission of ensuring that every woman can access football, and it is one of the main components in the future of our sport. Such friendly matches are not only a competition but also a beacon of hope and development to women everywhere in the world.
Historic Line-Up of Teams
The tournament will include four competing teams:
- Afghan Women’s Refugee Team—This team is the ONL’s first-ever appearance in an international tournament, and it would be a ray of hope and strength. Through FIFA, their presence is a symbol of the strength of sport to bind and inspire.
- Chad Women’s National Team — With the hopes of having a FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking debut, Chad is going to experience the international arena.
- Libya Women’s National Team—Like Chad, Libya will seek to utilize this platform to prove its credentials and be introduced into the world rankings.
- United Arab Emirates National Team—The home team will host the UAE team, which has an experienced Dutch coach, Vera Pauw, and will aim to take advantage of current developments and demonstrate their rising status in the female game.

Symbol of Hope and Progress
One of the most important aspects of the series is the involvement of the Afghan women refugee team. The team is the epitome of hard work, as it started its path with a talent identification camp in Sydney and, as a result, has struggled against all odds to reach the top of the sport. Infantino thanked the United Arab Emirates Football Association as the hosts of the event, which he termed a historic occasion that has put the players in the international limelight.
Tournament Format and Global Reach
Each of the four teams will have three matches in the round-robin competition, and the team with the highest number of points will be declared the winner.
