Empuraan Review
Empuraan Review: A masala entertainer with great performances by Mohanlal, Prithviraj and Manju Warrier with an above average storyline
These days Malayalam cinema is in a frenzy, one after the other Malayalam films are being seen on OTT. Now, the pan India release of a Malayalam film and the presence of Mohanlal, the biggest star of the Malayalam industry, raises hopes. This film is good, can be watched, it will be fun but its story does not have the surprising thing that is there in Malayalam cinema these days. On one hand, we say why Bollywood people don’t learn from Malayalam cinema, on the other hand after watching this film it felt that Malayalam people have learnt from Bollywood cinema.
Story
This is the second part of this film. A prize-winning Chief Minister has passed away. His corrupt son-in-law who was earning money in his name is no more. Now his son is in power but he too has announced to leave his party and join a corrupt leader. Kerala is in trouble, in such a situation who will save Kerala, and you know this. Lucifer, now who is this Lucifer, he had disappeared after the last film. He has been missing for 5 years, how will he come back, that Lucifer is having different problems with the drug mafia but he has to save Kerala. After all, this is why such an expensive film has been made, so go and watch it in the theatre.
Film
This film is good, it has style, swag, action, and emotion too, this film fails in just one thing and that is a good story. The story here is not bad but these days Malayalam cinema has raised its level so much that expectations from them have increased. The shoot here has been excellent. The cinematography is good, the production level of the film is quite good but in the second half, this film gives you the feel of regular South films. Where the hero just has to kill the villain and this is where the film becomes light but not so light that it cannot be watched. Do watch it, you will enjoy it but do not keep your expectations high.
Acting
Mohan Lal is dominating. His screen presence is amazing, he creates a ruckus in every scene. He gives goosebumps with every dialogue. Prithviraj Sukumaran’s work is also very good. He is an amazing actor and his character has been shown a little better this time. Manju Warrier has done a wonderful job. She makes her presence felt very well amidst so many male actors in the film. Tovino Thomas is good but his role has been reduced this time. Abhimanyu Singh has played a dreadful villain and has done a great job.
Direction
Prithviraj Sukumaran is a great actor and a good director too. He has made this film on a grand scale and it shows but if a little more work had been done on the story, this film would have been not just good but great. The length of the film is a bit too much, it could have been made shorter. A few more twists should have been added to the story in the second half. Overall this is a onetime watch, if you like typical South Indian masala films then watch it. Right now, the movie is competing with Salman Khan starrer Sikandar, but comparatively this film is doing great job.
