Emirates has also introduced more than 200 facial-recognition cameras in Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport (DXB) to allow passengers to go through the airport without having any documents upon getting to the airport. This is the pioneering Dh85 million project in collaboration with the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigner Affairs–Dubai (GDRFAD), which seeks to transform the process of movement of passengers through the airport from check-in to boarding.

A Seamless Journey from Curb to Cabin
The enhanced Biometric Path at Emirates enables passengers to pass through major points of entry of the airport with no action other than gazing into a camera. After registration, passengers will not have to carry a passport, ID, or mobile phone, as they can pass through check-in counters, immigration, lounges, and boarding gates without presenting them.
The airline says that the facial-recognition cameras are able to capture a passenger from a distance of one meter, thus making the process quicker and easier than ever.
Emirates Deputy President and Chief Operating Officer Adel Al Redha commented, “Our latest Biometrics Path development has seen Emirates invest additional innovations to improve the customer experience and deliver amazing speed, efficiency, and accuracy at Terminal 3.” We have been collaborating with GDRFAD since 2017 to make sure our customers have a world-class, seamless ride.
How to Skip Queues Using Your Face
Step 1: Register
Register through the Emirates app, the self-service kiosk, or check-in counters. Passengers over 18 years old have to scan their passports, sign up for Emirates Skywards, and consent to the use of biometrics.
Step 2: Check-In
Registered users have the opportunity to check in at biometric kiosks rather than showcasing documents.
Step 3: Immigration
Quick passport control at the Smart Gates of Terminal 3. The target users are UAE citizens and residents, GCC nationals, and visa-on-arrival tourists holding biometric passports.
Step 4: Lounge Access
Concourse B has facial-recognition gates that help one enter Emirates Lounges without a boarding pass.
Step 5: Boarding
The boarding process at selected gates in Concourses A, B, and C is currently supported by biometric gates, eliminating the need for manual checks.
What Happens to Your Data
In case the travelers already have a GDRFAD biometric record, Emirates automatically matches it when registering. New visitors receive a provisional profile that is upgraded to a permanent profile upon their first visit to Dubai, making their second visit much faster.

A Step Toward Dubai’s Smart Travel Vision
This implementation is of long-term interest to Dubai to be the smartest travel hub in the world. The biometric system increases the level of security, decreases congestion, and simplifies operations – a giant step ahead when it comes to an airport that handles tens of millions of passengers yearly.
In the case of Emirates, the program will enhance the perception of a global quality service and innovation. Due to the increased demand for travel worldwide, the investment that the airline makes in touchless technology is bound to ensure that its operations are based on safety and efficiency.
Future Expansion
Given the success of Terminal 3, Emirates and GDRFAD have a detailed intention of extending biometric interconnection to other terminals and services. Such development makes Dubai International Airport one of the references to the next-generation air transportation, where innovation, high speed, and convenience are put together in a single trip.
