Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reminded motorists that major vehicle modifications touching engines, factory specifications, or noise levels are simply not on the table. The authority says these rules exist to keep road users safe while making sure every vehicle on Dubai’s roads still meets approved safety and technical standards.
This latest clarification comes at a time when vehicle customisation is only getting more popular among car enthusiasts. Still, the RTA has been clear that not every modification gets a green light, so owners should double check their plans before sinking money into pricey upgrades.
RTA Urges Drivers to Seek Approval Before Modifying Vehicles
Ahmed Mahboob, Chief Executive Officer of the Licensing Agency at the RTA, is advising vehicle owners to check in with the authority before making any changes to their cars. As he put it, some modifications might look appealing on paper but still fall short of Dubai’s regulatory requirements.
He explained that the RTA has specialist technical teams whose job is to evaluate proposed vehicle modifications. These experts can tell motorists whether a planned change actually meets approved standards before any work even begins.
Major Engine Modifications Are Not Allowed
The RTA has been upfront that it will not issue permits for major engine upgrades or anything that alters a vehicle’s original factory specifications. Cars built by automotive manufacturers go through extensive engineering, testing, and international safety certification long before they reach customers.
